Clubs & Gangs

Even though gangs and clubs have some similarities in their definitions their connotations are different. Gangs are more violent then clubs, where clubs work more towards a common goal. Although gangs and clubs are examples of groups, there different in how they promote themselves to the public.

The word gang can mean a group of criminals or just a group working together, but the one I will talk most about will be “gang an organization group of criminals,” only because it is more likely to be used as that definition right now in our current culture. On T.V. the word gang is used in a more violent way then a recreational way. Meaning it’s not like a school function its violent and it’s for self preservation. There are small gangs like bullies and then there are big gangs that are spread across the world called the mafia. Some of the street gangs you normally see on the news usually don’t know any better. The grew up in broken homes have no where else to turn and/or just got mixed up in the wrong crowd. The mafia are usually people who just take on the family business they were born into it. In the 1620’s old english definition was a journey. as time passed the word started to a set of articles that are taken together and then evolved even more to the violence we see today. High schoolers end up talking amongst themselves about gangs sometimes, or it ends up on the news, or parents start talking about it and freaking out cause their kids are in danger. Gangs are almost like a violent club except the word gang has more of a negative connotation.

Club also have different meanings like a group with a particular interest in an activity or a heavy stick with a thick end. It’s somewhat like a gang except without all the violence. Its more on the recreational side then anything. In the 1200’s the word club started out as a thick stick and then turned into a specific bat used in games then evolved more into a gathering in a club like mass, now in days clubs are more so used in schools. When kids have a common interest in something like basketball, choir, etc. they do those thing with people who also have the same goal as they do whether it be winning a competition, or catching a ball. stuff like this can end up on the news, but it most likely stays in school. Most people join clubs because they share a common interest in something.”The Alaska Club your health and fitness solution” is a good example of this. The quote talks about the club working towards a goal of physical fitness. It’s different because a gang is people who hurt other people for their own gain or to get back at them they use violence to get what they want. As opposed to clubs, people join clubs because they have a goal and they won’t kill some one to get there. a group of people who uses their athletic ability or brains to get what they want not guns and knives.

Both these words are more concrete than abstract, they both can be visible to the naked eye both of the words are pretty specific. They can be seen on T.V. or in the newspaper or even in real life. the pictures i have on my blog of club and gang represent what type of club and gang i’m talking about. A club which is recreational, and gang which is more violent.

Gangs v.s. clubs

       Gang v.s. Club
Gangs usually involve violence of some sort and trouble with the law because they feel like it gives respect in the way they want to be respected. Gang members usually come from broken homes and their gangs become like their families.  And like families, when one goes down, they all go down. Clubs are usually run by a school or are lead by at least one adult. Clubs are formed for people who share a common interest and are for making friends and finding an educational way to spend their time.

What I thought about ~ "The Child Called It"
One Child's Courage to Survive.

when i read this book for the first time all i could think about was that this could not have happened. no one would ever be so cruel. it was hard for me to wrap my head around the idea of a mother doing that to her young child. But it did happen. After reading this book David Pelzer became my favorite author. He shows the strength in even a child as young as he. his strength when he was a boy is unbelievable. how much pain and suffering he went through everything that has happened to him and him living to tell the tale. It amazes me. his life was dark and he had no one to turn to. he suffered so much and i guess that's what makes him who he is today. to have the courage to send out his voice. to speak up. to let people know that he has been there done that and survived. a truly remarkable man and i am honored to know the story. when i feel week and i feel like im alone. when my world has sunk into darkness. i look back on what David has been through and it gives me the strength to realize that if he can pull through then so can i. and i wont give up that easily.

Why do you think he called this book the child called it?

"One Child's Courage to Survive."
this quote is the beginning to it all.

Chapter 7 ~ The Lord's Prayer

As Davids hatred grew his hope and faith faded. he felt as though there is no god, and if there was David sure wasn't on his good side. He felt more alone then ever before. David had turned all of his emotions off and the only thing that he had left was hatred. Even though he tried to resisted his mothers wrath it was no successes. his whole life crashed before his eyes. his family and friends left him to drown in his sorrow even his father. the one person he thought he had any chance of surviving. his hero. his savior had left him. he was alone with no where to go, and all he wanted and wished for was to end his life. end his life from this forsaken nightmares that he can not wake up to. only then will he have to suffer no more.

"Get one thing straight, you little son of a bitch! There is nothing you can do to impress me! Do you understand me? you are a nobody! An It! you are nonexistent! your are a bastard child! I hate you and i wish you were dead! Dead! do you hear me? Dead!"
This quote stood out to be because it showed why he call the book The Child Called It. and his mother calling him an It really got to him.

why did David stop believing in god?

David fought back and resisted his mother because...

#3
(Romantic)

To me, romance is something very important to me. I have never actually been romanced but when I think about it it usually involves someone who loves me doing everything he can to make me happy, to make me smile. someone who doesn't just say the sweet things like, "you're beautiful,"" you mean so much to me, i cant think of anyone else but you, etc. but means them. someone who's crazy enough, when i'm having a bad day, to run inside the class room and quote harry potter "There's a troll in the dungeon!!!! just thought you ought to know..." just to let me know that everything will be okay and then try his hardest to make it that way, because he loves me and he wants me to know that every second of the day. Even when i romance my man i make him feel like a man when were in public i play and joke around and i sing to him songs that mean exactly how i feel and make him smile. be there when his life starts to fall apart because i just want him to know that he can cry in my arms and i wont walk away or look at him with disgusted i want him to know he can be open with me and that i'm there for him and i will always be through thick and thin. romance is not something you say just to say or think up in your mind. its something you truly, and deeply mean. its something you want to share with someone special. someone you care and love for.

Chapter 6 ~ While Father Is Away

Games, she would call them games he would play, vile and brutal games and the one that he hated the most was the gas chamber game. Davids mother would have him go in to the bathroom and close the door and not come out until she allowed him to and in the bathroom she would have a bucket and in the bucket she would have deadly chemicals, ammonia and Clorox, it made his eyes water and his throat burn while gasping for clean air he couldn't find. his mother didn't let him out not even if he was dead. and to think that the beatings and the stabbings and the burns was enough not for Mrs. Pelzer. with those punishments there are more to come. she also filled the tub with ice cold water and stuck David's head under until he was out of breath. and just about to faint. he would have to stay in the tub until told to get out.

"Its over sweetheart. After this moment, i want you to forget any of it happened at all. you will try and be a good boy, won't you?"
This is not the first time she lied to him. but the first time he really believed it as much as he did.

What happeneds while Davids father is away?

David had realized his mother was only being nice to him because...
Davids dad feels like he has to stay because...

Chapter 5 ~ The Accident

As the story goes on David now knows what his mother wants and how she works and hes made it so that less punishments come to harm him when the time comes. because it is summer he knows that finding ways to get food was not in his favor any longer. David is almost 11 years old now and his mother has not changed except for the worse. while David struggling to do the dishes and get them done in time a knife pierced his body from his mother. after that his mother felt bad and treated his wound bus shortly after she began to go back to her retread self and David not fully healed finds that his wound is getting infected and, without the help of his mother, doing everything he can to fix it. David is strong and he will not give up. he wont die like this.

"Jesus H. Christ! Does your mother know that you're in here talking to me? you better go back in there and do the dishes. Damn it boy, we dont need to do anything that might make her more upset! I dont need to go through that tonight...."
this is where David felt more alone the hes ever had. his father the only person who he could count on has betrayed him.

What is the Accident in this Chapter?

I think Davids biggest fear is...
I think David has over come...
