Clubs & Gangs

Even though gangs and clubs have some similarities in their definitions their connotations are different. Gangs are more violent then clubs, where clubs work more towards a common goal. Although gangs and clubs are examples of groups, there different in how they promote themselves to the public.

The word gang can mean a group of criminals or just a group working together, but the one I will talk most about will be “gang an organization group of criminals,” only because it is more likely to be used as that definition right now in our current culture. On T.V. the word gang is used in a more violent way then a recreational way. Meaning it’s not like a school function its violent and it’s for self preservation. There are small gangs like bullies and then there are big gangs that are spread across the world called the mafia. Some of the street gangs you normally see on the news usually don’t know any better. The grew up in broken homes have no where else to turn and/or just got mixed up in the wrong crowd. The mafia are usually people who just take on the family business they were born into it. In the 1620’s old english definition was a journey. as time passed the word started to a set of articles that are taken together and then evolved even more to the violence we see today. High schoolers end up talking amongst themselves about gangs sometimes, or it ends up on the news, or parents start talking about it and freaking out cause their kids are in danger. Gangs are almost like a violent club except the word gang has more of a negative connotation.

Club also have different meanings like a group with a particular interest in an activity or a heavy stick with a thick end. It’s somewhat like a gang except without all the violence. Its more on the recreational side then anything. In the 1200’s the word club started out as a thick stick and then turned into a specific bat used in games then evolved more into a gathering in a club like mass, now in days clubs are more so used in schools. When kids have a common interest in something like basketball, choir, etc. they do those thing with people who also have the same goal as they do whether it be winning a competition, or catching a ball. stuff like this can end up on the news, but it most likely stays in school. Most people join clubs because they share a common interest in something.”The Alaska Club your health and fitness solution” is a good example of this. The quote talks about the club working towards a goal of physical fitness. It’s different because a gang is people who hurt other people for their own gain or to get back at them they use violence to get what they want. As opposed to clubs, people join clubs because they have a goal and they won’t kill some one to get there. a group of people who uses their athletic ability or brains to get what they want not guns and knives.

Both these words are more concrete than abstract, they both can be visible to the naked eye both of the words are pretty specific. They can be seen on T.V. or in the newspaper or even in real life. the pictures i have on my blog of club and gang represent what type of club and gang i’m talking about. A club which is recreational, and gang which is more violent.
